There are three common methods of charging a battery; constant voltage, constant current and a combination of constant voltage/constant current with or without a smart charging circuit. Constant voltage allows the full current of the charger to flow into the battery until the power supply reaches its pre-set voltage. Batteries in travel trailers can be charged by several methods. The most common way to charge camper batteries is plugged into 110 volts at your house or campground. Batteries can also be charged from a generator, off of your tow vehicle, using solar panels, as well as a stand along battery charger. Worth noting: those sessions used 240-volt Level 2 charging equipment, but took batteries from zero percent to a 100 percent state of charge, which is more challenging for a battery than typical use. Unless a Li-ion battery is charged very slowly (usually 0.15 C or even less), terminating the charge based on reaching a voltage of 4.2 V/cell will only charge the battery to a maximum of 0.7C. Some batteries may only reach 0.4C. Charging Li batteries at less than 4.2 V/cell is possible but also not recommended. .
